    Announcement

The American airline’s new direct route between Newark Liberty International Airport in New York and Nuuk will open for service for the first time on Saturday, June 14.

The route opens the door to new opportunities for tourism, trade and cooperation โ€“ and underlines Greenland’s growing global importance, writes Greenland Airports in a press release.

    – With the opening of the new airport, we have set our ambitions high, and the interest from airlines like United shows that Nuuk is now seriously put on the global map. This is not just an airplane โ€“ it is the beginning of a new chapter for Greenland and a strengthening of our ability to trade, travel and collaborate internationally, says CEO of Greenland Airports, Jens Lauridsen.

The route will initially be flown twice a week during the summer season and will provide passengers with access to one of the world’s largest aviation hubs. Newark Airport is a central gateway to hundreds of destinations in the US and internationally, meaning Greenland is now directly connected to the global network.

    – As an airport, we are completely dependent on airlines seeing the potential in us and wanting to make us part of their network. United, with its unique route network in both the USA and the rest of the world, offers almost unlimited possibilities for combinations of trips to and from Greenland, emphasizes Jens Lauridsen.

Sermitsiaq will follow the events when the new route opens.
