This coming weekend, the Greenland Police will be extra visible on the streets of Nuuk. The explanation is the upcoming visit from the French President.

On Sunday, President Emanuel Macron will land in Nuuk. And therefore, there will be more visible police on the streets of Nuuk in the coming days.

The Greenland Police wrote this on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon.

The extra police officers that the citizens of Nuuk may encounter are assistance from the country’s other police districts, the police write, and the assistance is to ensure that Sunday’s visit ‘takes place in good order, so that everyone – both visitors and locals – can feel safe’.

    – So please say hello to our colleagues if you meet them, says Deputy Police Inspector Kunuk Frederiksen.

During the visit, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will also be present. And Emanuel Macron and Mette Frederiksen will meet with the President of Greenland, Jens Frederik Nielsen, and, among other things, talk about security in the North Atlantic and the Arctic.

In addition, they will also talk about economic development and climate change.

Not much has been announced publicly yet about the visit, but it is certain that Macron will leave Greenland again on Sunday, and Jens Frederik Nielsen and Mette Frederiksen will attend a meeting in the Faroe Islands on Monday and Tuesday, where security is also on the agenda.
