Linda Kleist Appointed Managing Director of Visit Greenland
In a move aimed at securing a stable future for Greenland’s national tourism organization, the board of Visit Greenland has appointed Linda Kleist as its new managing director. This decision follows her role as acting director after the resignation of Anne Nivíka Grødem.
The board’s emphasis throughout the recruitment process was clear: they sought a long-term management solution that would provide continuity and a clear vision for the organization’s future endeavors. In its announcement, Visit Greenland articulated its commitment to strengthening the country’s position as a travel destination while fostering responsible tourism that yields tangible benefits for local communities.
“Visit Greenland faces significant challenges ahead,” commented Anette G. Lings, the chairman of Visit Greenland. “Our strategy for 2035 envisions a clear path forward, one that emphasizes sustainable tourism development rooted in the unique attributes of Greenland itself. We need a leader capable of translating this strategy into concrete action and enhancing collaboration across various stakeholders—including destinations, businesses, authorities, and international partners. Linda is exceedingly well-suited for this role.”
Kleist’s tenure at Visit Greenland began in 2023, where she has been integral to national destination development efforts, liaison activities with regional tourist boards, and strategic initiatives across the country. Prior to her acting role, she was already a valued member of Visit Greenland’s management team.
As managing director, Kleist will lead the organization’s ongoing efforts to fortify Greenland’s standing as an international travel destination. “I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by the board, and I’m honored to take on this responsibility,” she remarked. “Kalaallit Nunaat is my home—my driving force and foundation. I am dedicated to enhancing Visit Greenland’s contributions toward elevating our international profile and welcoming visitors with curiosity and respect. I envision a scenario where tourism translates into greater local value for the communities it touches.”
Kleist’s vision for responsible tourism centers on nurturing a thriving industry while ensuring that Greenland is seen as a welcoming place for both residents and visitors alike. With a professional degree in International Hospitality Management and a background as a marketing economist, her expertise positions her well to tackle the challenges ahead. She has served as acting director since late May, guiding the organization during a critical transition period.
As Kleist steps into her new role, the future looks promising for both Visit Greenland and the nation as a whole, poised to make strides on the global tourism stage.
