New Direct Flight Connects Aalborg and Nuuk
On Tuesday, Air Greenland launched a new direct flight route between Aalborg and Nuuk, enhancing connectivity for Danish tourists and Greenlanders living in Denmark returning home for the summer.
For residents of northern Jutland, this direct flight serves as a significant time-saver, allowing them to bypass the traditional transfer in Copenhagen. Greenlanders traveling from their homeland also stand to benefit, as they can avoid the hassle of navigating Copenhagen Airport, especially given that Nuuk’s airport lacks international security clearance.
This route was initially introduced last summer through a codeshare partnership between Air Greenland and Ruby Rejser. However, this year, it is exclusively operated by Air Greenland.
Navigating Challenges
Last year’s launch faced several challenges related to IT systems, check-in processes, boarding procedures, service standards, and baggage handling at both airports. Fortunately, these issues appear to be resolved. The flight, carrying 105 passengers from Aalborg, enjoyed a smooth journey to Nuuk, adhering to a well-organized schedule.
While the plane departed 15 minutes late—reportedly due to an absence of coffee on board—most passengers found the reason charmingly understandable; after all, what flight is complete without a cup of coffee?
Thanks to the skilled cabin crew from Airseven, a positive atmosphere prevailed on board. Captain Nørgaard took the time to provide passengers with insights into the scenic views. Despite some turbulent winds during landing, the flight touched down in Nuuk a remarkable 20 minutes ahead of schedule.

Space Constraints
Operated by the Danish airline Airseven, which shares ownership with Ruby Rejser, the route utilizes a Boeing 737-800 with a capacity for 189 passengers. This aircraft, while known as one of the best-selling models globally, may not offer the most spacious experience, especially for those accustomed to Air Greenland’s more generous seating arrangements.
Airseven is part of the Travelheart Family, a Danish travel group that acquired Ruby Rejser earlier this year. This change likely influenced the travel agency’s decision to cease flying its own tourists to Greenland while fostering a strong partnership with Air Greenland to fill seats on this new summer route.
The Aalborg-Nuuk flight will operate every Tuesday until September 1, allowing travelers to explore the stunning landscapes of Greenland with greater ease.
