Air Greenland Issues Apology Amid Ongoing Flight Disruptions in East Greenland
Air Greenland has expressed deep regret over what it describes as “significant inconvenience” caused to passengers following weeks of flight cancellations in East Greenland. As the situation continues to evolve, the timeline for a return to normal operations remains uncertain.
On Tuesday, the airline announced that one of its H125 helicopters successfully landed in Tasiilaq after departing from Narsarsuaq. This marks a crucial step in resuming services to the area after a lengthy hiatus.
In a statement released on its website, Air Greenland detailed the return of helicopter operations to Tasiilaq, thanks to a collaborative effort with Greenland Copter. Additionally, Dash-8 aircraft have been actively connecting Nuuk and Kulusuk, helping to restore some degree of transportation in the region.
Looking ahead, Air Greenland outlined its flight schedule for the coming days:
- Wednesday, April 15: Two flights are set to operate between Nuuk and Kulusuk, with an extended layover in Kulusuk to accommodate passengers arriving from Tasiilaq.
- Thursday, April 16: Rural flights in the area are expected to resume.
“We sincerely regret the significant inconvenience that recent cancellations have caused for our passengers,” the airline stated.
Challenges Behind the Disruptions
The airline cited a mix of technical difficulties with a helicopter, adverse flying conditions, and other challenges outside its control as reasons for the ongoing cancellations. Specifics on these issues have not been disclosed.
Air Greenland has not provided a definitive timeline for when normal operations will resume, particularly concerning the travel of affected passengers and cargo. “We will continuously update our website as new information becomes available,” the company assured.
Earlier this week, we reached out to Air Greenland for further clarity on the issues plaguing East Greenland, including queries about how many passengers have been affected and the duration of these service disruptions. We await their response.
