KNI to Phase Out Cash Payments at Fuel Stations Starting January 7, 2027

In a significant shift toward modernization, KNI, the autonomously owned company, has announced that it will no longer accept cash payments at its fuel stations beginning January 7, 2027.

This decision, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and security of transactions, aligns with the growing trend of digital payments among consumers. KNI emphasizes that, moving forward, customers will only be able to pay using international cards, including Mastercard and Visa.

“The rationale behind this change is rooted in our commitment to providing a simpler and safer experience for our patrons,” KNI explained in a statement. “The vast majority of our customers are already utilizing digital payment methods, making this transition a logical step forward.”

Interestingly, many of KNI’s fueling facilities cater to boats along the coastline, underscoring the broad impact of this decision. KNI is alerting customers well in advance, allowing ample time for those who don’t already possess a Mastercard or Visa to secure one through their bank.

While cash transactions will remain possible until the cutoff date, KNI has made it clear that any malfunctioning cash payment systems will not be repaired or replaced during this period. If a cash system fails or ages out, the station will revert to accepting only international cards. Customers are cautioned that local Akiliut cards will not be accepted at the machines.

This transition marks a pivotal moment in KNI’s operations, reflecting a broader societal shift towards cashless transactions. As the deadline approaches, KNI encourages all customers to adapt to this change for a more streamlined fueling experience.
