Qaqortoq Airport: A New Chapter Awaits

Though the official inauguration of Qaqortoq Airport is set for Thursday, excitement has already taken flight. On Tuesday evening, a test flight successfully touched down on the brand-new runway, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s journey.

Greenland Airports took to Facebook to share the momentous occasion, posting photos and videos that capture the spirit of the event. “The test flight is a necessary part of the process leading to the final approvals of the airport,” they noted, underscoring the importance of this initial step.

To commemorate the opening, a community coffee break is planned at the city’s community center, coupled with guided tours of the terminal for all those eager to explore. “We are thrilled by the immense interest surrounding the opening of Qaqortoq Airport and recognize that many wish to be part of this special day,” Greenland Airports expressed on their Facebook page. “After the opening event, we can’t wait to open our doors and showcase the new terminal.”

For those wanting to follow the festivities, KNR will provide live coverage throughout the day, beginning with the Nunatta Nipaa radio program at 7 AM, while Unnu’manna will wrap up the celebrations later in the evening.

As this chapter of connectivity begins, Qaqortoq Airport symbolizes not just a new infrastructure but a gateway to new opportunities for the community and beyond.
