Reflections from Toke Ketwa-Driefer: A Year of Glory and Responsibility

Is there a sporting moment from 2025 that has made you particularly proud?
For Toke Ketwa-Driefer, the answer is clear. “Winning gold in the team tournament at the Island Games 2025 in Orkney was truly a highlight of my year. Standing in that decisive match, I felt a surge of pride as we secured the victory together, bringing home a gold medal for all of Greenland. It’s these moments that fuel my dedication to train harder and continuously improve.”

    • Occupation: Medical student
    • Sport: Badminton

What does being a role model mean to you?
Toke reflects, “While I hadn’t always considered it deeply, I’ve come to understand that my actions resonate beyond the court. I strive to conduct myself with integrity, not just for my benefit but also because young players and fans look up to us as representatives of Greenland. I take that responsibility to heart.”

What does it mean to you to represent your country on the pitch?
“It’s an immense honor to don the colors of Greenland. With that honor comes obligation. It drives me to dig deep and give that extra 10 percent when the stakes are high. I’m not just playing for myself; I’m playing for my entire country.”

What are your dreams for 2026?
“As for my aspirations in 2026, I aim to reclaim the Greenlandic championship at Easter. On an international level, my teammates and I are committed to collecting points in the world rankings for a shot at qualifying for larger tournaments, like the European Championships. This autumn, we engaged in tournaments across Hungary and Ireland, which posed challenging hurdles. Yet, this is precisely the kind of goal that fuels our ambition, and together, we will strive tirelessly to achieve it.”
