Ukaleq and Sondre Slettemark Shine in World Cup Relay
In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, siblings Ukaleq and Sondre Slettemark have concluded their final competition before the Winter Olympics with a commendable performance at the World Cup Relay in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. The duo, both rising stars in the ski world, secured a solid 16th place finish out of 24 teams, notably surpassing powerhouse nations like the United States and Canada.
The Greenlanders executed the relay with remarkable precision, avoiding any trips to the penalty round. At various points in the race, they even found themselves in the mix around 12th position. Their anticipation grew as they approached the finish line, and the thrill of competition spurred them on.
“The Single Mix relay suits us really well; it’s an exhilarating competition,” they shared in a press release from the Greenland Biathlon Federation. “The atmosphere is electric, with adrenaline coursing through your veins. It’s also quite unpredictable because the course is short and shooting plays a critical role. We’re thrilled with our result, especially beating the USA. Although we avoided penalty rounds, our shooting could have been sharper—we needed 12 extra shots to hit all 40 discs. Still, it highlights our potential to climb the standings with improved shooting.”
Next on the agenda for Ukaleq and Sondre is a focused training camp in Obertilliach, Austria, where they’ll dedicate the next 12 days to refining their skills in preparation for the upcoming Winter Olympics. With their sights set high, the Slettemark siblings aim to channel their recent experiences into an even stronger performance on the grand stage.
