Pilutaq Berthelsen Named Athlete of the Year in Avannaata Kommunia 2025
In an inspiring celebration of athletic achievement, runner Pilutaq Berthelsen has been honored as the Athlete of the Year in Avannaata Kommunia for 2025. The award was presented at a vibrant sports ceremony held on January 31 in Ilulissat.
Reflecting on the accolade, Berthelsen expressed his mixed emotions. “The feeling of surprise is both strange and pleasant,” he shared with AG, showcasing a humility that resonates with his followers.
Over the past year, Berthelsen has tackled an impressive 11 major races, including the Siku Cross Uummannaq Marathon, the Aasiaat Marathon, and the Polar Circle Challenge in Kangerlussuaq. His dedication extended beyond local events; he proudly represented Greenland at the Island Games on the Orkney Islands in Scotland.
Looking ahead, Berthelsen remains optimistic about future competitions. “If the ice settles in Uummannaq, maybe I can compete in the Siku Cross Uummannaq Marathon—one of my favorite races. However, it depends on whether we can secure sponsorship,” he noted, illustrating both his passion for the sport and the challenges that athletes often face.
Berthelsen’s commitment and accomplishments not only highlight his own journey but also serve as an inspiration to fellow athletes across the region.
