A Dream Come True for B-67’s U15 Team at the Dana Cup

For the young athletes of B-67’s U15 team, a thrilling journey awaits as they prepare to participate in the esteemed Dana Cup in Hjørring from July 20 to 25. Excitement filled the air as they received the wonderful news that local businesses Arctic Import and Hørkram would be sponsoring their trip, covering all essential expenses, including accommodation, meals, and registration fees.

“This opportunity goes beyond just playing football; it connects these girls to a global community of athletes from around the world,” said Henrik Kronborg, Sales Director of Arctic Import. “Friendships and cultural exchanges during this tournament will enrich their experience immensely.”

Last Year’s Success and its Impact

The team received the same support last year from Arctic Import and Hørkram, a gesture that the coaches described as invaluable. “This tournament is so significant for Greenlandic women’s football,” emphasized B-67 coach Nikolaj Mathæussen. “Being able to attend means everything to these young players. The gratitude we owe to the parents and sponsors who made this possible is immense. This experience is sure to leave a lasting impression on them.”

A Unique Experience on Real Grass

Echoing Mathæussen’s sentiments, boys’ team coach Ungaaq Abelsen remarked on the novelty of playing on international pitches. “Having the chance to play on a full-size football field with real grass—just like we see on television—is a rarity for us back in Nuuk,” he shared.

The Dana Cup is not just a local affair; it draws over 1,000 teams and 20,000 players and fans from 45 different countries for five exhilarating days each year. Each participating team is guaranteed not only a training match but also at least three competitive matches as well as a playoff opportunity. For those under 15, matches consist of two 20-minute halves, while older players enjoy slightly longer games of two 25-minute halves.

During their stay in Hjørring, the young footballers will be accommodated in local schools, with virtually every school in the Vendsyssel region lending a hand to host these eager players. Last year, 13 teams from Greenland took part in this grand event, a testament to the growing engagement in football across the region.

As the B-67 U15 team gears up for what promises to be an unforgettable experience, they not only prepare to compete but also to embrace the friendships and memories that will last a lifetime on the fields of Hjørring.
