At precisely 7:41 this morning, a dramatic display of thunder and lightning erupted near Húsafell, marking the beginning of a remarkable weather event. This intense activity swiftly moved across Sælingsdalur and Hrútafjörður, rolling into parts of Strandasýsla before finally reaching the Westfjords, particularly the picturesque Önundarfjörður. By 10:00, the skies over Reykhólasveit and Þorskafjarðarheiði were illuminated by a significant increase in lightning strikes, with reports indicating over 450 strikes recorded as of 11:00.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office remains vigilant, closely tracking the ongoing developments of this fierce atmospheric activity.

Included is a map detailing the lightning detected by the Icelandic Meteorological Office between 7:41 and 11:00 this morning.
