CrossFit Inua Finds a New Home in Nuuk
In a noteworthy development for the CrossFit community in Nuuk, owners Camilla Nymand Petersen, Súsan Ýr Guðmundsdóttir Johnsen, Mette Steenholdt, and their team have relocated CrossFit Inua from Nuukkullak to a new facility at Industrivez. The official move took place on June 1, setting into motion a series of preparations to transform their new ‘box’—the term used for training spaces in CrossFit.
“It still feels a bit surreal,” Súsan remarked when we caught up with her at their new address, just half an hour before the afternoon class was set to begin.
Midway through June, members pitched in to help transport all the training equipment into the new venue. Since then, local CrossFit enthusiasts have embraced their fresh surroundings and have been engaging in a variety of workouts, from box jumps to burpees.
“We’re delighted with the changes. In our old location, we didn’t have a bathroom, but now we do,” shared Camilla Nymand Petersen, one of the driving forces behind the gym.
Concrete and Comfort
CrossFit, a discipline that merges weightlifting, fitness, and gymnastics into short but intense workouts, has found its footing in Nuuk over the years. While locals have been able to practice CrossFit for quite some time, CrossFit Inua as it stands today officially launched in 2022 after its ownership changed hands.
The gym originally operated near the tunnel in Nuuk and later moved to larger spaces at Radiofjeldet. With their most recent relocation, they settled briefly in Nuukkullak.
“It was fortunate we found that space, but the floor was uneven, and we had only one toilet,” Camilla recalled.
However, upon discovering their current facility, she noted the even concrete floor and favorable rental terms made it an easy choice. “It’s truly fantastic—absolutely perfect,” she enthused.
Feedback from members has been overwhelmingly positive. Camilla and her fellow owners are hopeful that the new space will attract even more people eager to experience the benefits of CrossFit.
“Here, you not only get fit, but you also cultivate valuable friendships. It’s an excellent alternative to other sports,” she explained.
“For us, it doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or an elite athlete; everyone is on the same team. Everyone here is good enough,” Súsan added, perfectly encapsulating the inclusive ethos of CrossFit Inua.
