Greenland Football Union Teams Up with Air Greenland in a Groundbreaking Partnership
In a significant development for local sports, the Greenland Football Union (KAK) has forged a three-year partnership with Air Greenland, securing funding and support for the nation’s football scene. This agreement, valued at three million kroner, will be in effect from June 1 and will last until the end of 2029.
The pact was officially signed at Nuuk Airport by Jacob Nitter Sørensen, Director of Air Greenland, and Kenneth Kleist, Chairman of KAK. “This arrangement not only focuses on elite players but aims to uplift the entire football community along the coast,” KAK emphasized in a statement.
Under the terms of the agreement, both junior and elite players—encompassing futsal and outdoor soccer—will benefit from enhanced training opportunities. This includes the prospect of international matches, allowing players to gain invaluable experience abroad.
The Benefits Extend Beyond the Elite
While the primary focus is on elite soccer, the implications are wide-reaching. KAK anticipates using the funds saved from this partnership to further enhance the game of football across Greenland. “These resources will directly contribute to the development and promotion of football and futsal in our communities,” Kleist noted in a press release.
The collaboration aims to streamline the organization of national team gatherings, fostering both team spirit and improving the overall standard of the sport within Greenland. “The partnership will not only facilitate meetings for national teams but also enable growth at the grassroots level through club initiatives,” remarked Jacob Nitter Sørensen.
