Meet Lorenzo Bigo, a devoted 30-year-old football aficionado from Italy who has authored “Calcio Artico. Giocare a Pallone in Groenlandia”—better known in English as “Arctic Football: Playing Football in Greenland.” This book serves as a compelling narrative and photographic exploration of the first seven decades of football’s evolution in Greenland.
Bigo has meticulously structured his work by geographical regions: North, Central, South, East Greenland, and the Disko Bay area. Each chapter is rich with stories, anecdotes, and curiosities that highlight the key teams in these areas.
At the back of the book, readers will find an extensive photo gallery showcasing the logos of all Greenlandic football clubs along with images of championship-winning teams over the years.

Bigo explains his motivation: “Over the years, I’ve amassed a wealth of material on Greenlandic football and wanted to help spread awareness about this unique part of our world.” His heartfelt dedication is also a way of saying “Qujanaq”—thank you—to the friends in Greenland who have graciously helped him acquire jerseys and shared their rich football culture.
After investing over a year in writing, Bigo feels a deep sense of pride now that his book has finally been published. He had the delightful opportunity to showcase it during a friendly match on May 31, where a team from Friuli went head-to-head with Greenland’s national squad. “Meeting the players and coaching staff was an unforgettable experience, one that I will carry close to my heart,” he shares, reflecting on his ongoing desire to visit Greenland one day.
