A Day to Remember for Tasiilaq’s Young Athletes

On a sun-drenched Tuesday, August 26, the children from Tasiilami Alivarpik School were treated to a remarkable experience that would surely linger in their memories. Former Danish national team coach, Kasper Hjulmand, along with the Bank of Greenland, made a special visit to Tasiilaq to lead an inspiring football training session.

Gathered on the town’s lively football field, boys and girls of all ages participated with an infectious enthusiasm that filled the air. The day’s activities were designed not just to teach technical skills but also to foster a sense of joy and community among the children.

Reflecting on the event, Hjulmand shared, “It was wonderful to gather the children for some training. The most important thing was to have fun with the ball and with each other. Tasiilaq is incredibly beautiful, and everyone I met was warm, helpful, and friendly. It was fantastic to connect with these lovely children and the dedicated teachers who truly make a difference in their lives.”

The training session was made possible thanks to the strong support from the school and was part of the Bank of Greenland’s broader commitment to promoting well-being through sport within local communities. The day included a mix of games, exercises, and friendly matches, giving the children a unique opportunity to learn from one of Denmark’s most notable football figures.

In a generous gesture, balls were donated by KAK – Kalaallit Arsaattartut Kattuffiat, further emphasizing the spirit of community involvement.
